The muscle car era was full of neat and odd option combos. I wish I had a camera at this show I was at a couple years ago but there was a one owner 70 Chevelle that was a factory SS 454 (LS5), bench seat and a 3 on the tree. I talked to owner, mainly to know why he didn’t option a 4 speed, and it was because his wife could only drive a 3 speed column shift and that was the compromise for him to get a 454 chevelle.

Wow. I’d be like, “Four-door Malibu with a 396 and a four-speed, please.”

Wow I didn’t even know you could get a 3 on the tree in an SS 454.

440/4sp would work for me. My grandfather drove Chryslers.

Let out the clutch like a normal person then step down on the accelerator sharply.

That should do nicely whatever engine is in it.
That is a 70-72 Skylark of some sort - with a radio delete.

that was one of the few things you couldn’t do. Big Blocks up to 1971 were part of the SS option, you couldn’t get a big block chevelle with out the SS option and it was never offered on a 4 door Malibu or wagon.

you could on a LS5, the lower hp of the two 454's in 1970

There’s something so welcoming about a car with no center console. Both the Fit and the Galant have low, skinny center consoles, but it’s not the same. That’s on of the main reasons I’d rather have a base model truck. Even a rand new F-150 can still be had with a split bench seat and no center console. Now if only you could get an F-150 with a manual transmission.

Imagine being able to buy a new car with a pretty steering wheel.

Then you’ve got the Captain Kirk Edition of the Toyota Prius. Ghastly.
No more manual transmissions in the F150?

You make interesting observations about cars. When I look at the steering wheel above, I see an instrument that would feel good in my hand(s). And that Muncie four-speed, side-mounted shift mechanism...
I look at that picture and I see a car I’d love to take for a romp.

You still can, it’s just been modernized.

Yeah I think 09 was the last year you could get a manual F-150.

This would also please me greatly.

Same, to me the simple steering wheel is a big part of that. Also you’d need to be wading something like this
